Everything You Want to Know About Historic Window Restoration

  • We specialize in original wood windows built before the 1950s — including double-hung, casement, fixed, sliders, and curved or specialty sashes. If it’s made of wood and part of a historic home, chances are we’ve seen it before and know how to bring it back to life.

  • We replace cracked or missing glass as part of our restoration services. Typically we see wavy single-paned glass, but we can also replace with flat clear glass, laminated glass, etched glass, and art glass.

  • This is one of the most common issues we address. We’ll carefully free the sashes, repair any damage, and make sure your windows open, close, and lock smoothly.

  • Pricing depends on the condition, size, and number of windows. Some jobs involve basic repairs; others require full sash rebuilds. We’re happy to provide a ballpark quote if you send photos — or schedule an in-person consultation for a detailed estimate.

  • New windows from National companies often don’t match the style, fit, or longevity of original wood windows — especially in historic homes. Restoration preserves your home's character, is often more cost-effective long-term, and avoids unnecessary waste. Plus, old-growth wood is irreplaceable. We also offer accurate reproductions when restoration is not an option.

  • We work throughout San Diego County, with frequent jobs in neighborhoods like South Park, North Park, Mission Hills, Kensington, La Mesa, and Coronado.

  • If a sash is too far gone or is missing, we can build a historically accurate replica using traditional joinery and matched profiles. We also do full sash sets for additions or new openings that need to match existing windows.

  • Start by filling out our estimate form or emailing us photos of your windows. From there, we’ll reach out to discuss next steps, pricing, and scope of work. You can also call us directly if you prefer to talk through your project.

“I’m very nervous about lead safety, and they took the proper measures to keep my home tidy while they worked. They were communicative, and generous with their time and knowledge. I wouldn’t trust just anyone with my old windows, but I definitely trust and recommend them.” — Ashley, South Park
